The Ministry of Health is heading towards expanding the third phase of the Samih Darwazah Cancer Center, which received around 5,300 patients last year and administered over 5,000 chemotherapy sessions, according to Minister of Health, Firas Al-Hawari.
Al-Hawari said on Tuesday, during a media meeting with representatives of the press titled "Enhancing the Efficiency of the Government Health Sector 2023-2024," that the ministry launched a three-year strategy for the first time last year, whereas it is usually customary for strategies to be at least five years long.
He added that the goal of the three-year strategy is to create a challenge that integrates the ministry with the vision of economic and administrative modernization, with fast, achievable goals that citizens can directly feel through improvements in service delivery.
He confirmed that 70% of the requirements for the first year have been completed, considering this an achievement, as the first phase is the hardest when launching strategies.
Al-Hawari explained that the ministry has developed its services, particularly those directly affecting citizens, especially in the provision of treatment services. He also mentioned that there are strategic projects within the ministry that pave the way for a new future where services will be delivered in a completely different way.
He clarified that in recent years, the ministry has focused on strengthening services that matter most to citizens.
Al-Hawari also noted that throughout its history, the Ministry of Health has not performed advanced operations like heart catheterizations and open-heart surgeries. However, these services are now available in the Bashir, Hussein Salt New, and Zarqa hospitals, with the latter being the most recent and having successfully carried out over 900 catheterization procedures since March of the previous year.
He confirmed that there will be no month without a new achievement within the ministry to serve citizens, as the ministry has automated 36 electronic services, which will be announced soon.
He added that by mid-year, the ministry will complete the automation of 63 electronic services to make it easier for citizens.
