Completed within nine months in 2019, the Oncology Department at Al-Bashir Hospital (Samih Darwazah Cancer Center) project entailed refurbishing an area measuring 1,400 square meters with a capacity of 40 beds, at a cost of JD 1.5 million (collected in the form of cash and in-kind contributions from individual and institutions). The rehabilitation included all civil works, infrastructure, finishes, interior design as well as electrical and mechanical works.

The project commenced with the development of preliminary designs and studies through to implementation, in accordance with the highest standards and best practices in healthcare design. In August 2020, His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania visited the center.

On August 16th, 2021, Princess Ghida Talal, the Chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center (KHCC), signed an agreement with Health Minister Firas Al Hawari in the presence of Prime Minister Bisher al Khasawneh for the management and operation of Samih Darwazah Oncology Center. This agreement authorized the KHCC to handle the supervision, management and operation of the Samih Darwazeh Center, including outpatient clinics and chemotherapy services based on the treatment plan assigned by the KHCC committee.
